Q: Where do you get your typewriters from? A: From the typewriter fairy, of course! Seriously, we spend alot of time looking for these. Friends, family, online, yard sale, thrift stores, etc.. It is getting harder and harder to find old manual machines though so alot of time is devoted to searching. Q: What does it take to make a piece of jewelry? A: A lot of blood, sweat, and tears. The keys need to be removed from a machine without being damaged, cleaned, polished, cut, smoothed, and attached. All these steps, while time consuming, result in a beautiful, unique, and lasting piece of jewelry Q: Why do you make this type of jewelry? A: We both enjoy working with keys for some strange reason. The ability to be creative and create custom orders is rewarding. Q: I don't see what I want but have an idea- Can you do it? A: Of course, we work with you on designs until you are satisfied. Q: How do I care for my jewelry? A: Glass or plastic lens topped keys should not be immersed in water. If original inserts are used then you probably won't notice much change if the bracelet were to get wet. Jewelry with new inserts such as a themed bracelet with new papers can possibly be ruined with submersion. Celluloid or bakelite keys can get wet with no harmful effects. You can wipe key faces off with a damp rag. Q: Do you use craft storetypewriter beads or repro stickers? A: NO!!! We only use authentic keys from vintage machines. Q: I saw someone selling this stuff alot cheaper, how do you set your prices? A: We like to say " You get what you pay for" Alot of time and energy is devoted to crafting a piece. Vintage keys are expensive to obtain and are in short supply. Many vendors prices are higher. We feel good about offering an affordable, quality piece of jewelry. |
